Tanya Burch | Clinical Director - M. Coun., LPC
Tanya Burch is Licensed Professional Counselor. She has worked in the Behavioral Health field for over 20 years in a variety of settings including schools, residential treatment and outpatient settings. In the scope of her practice, she addresses addictions, trauma and other mental health issues. Tanya is certified in EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing), the leading therapy used for treatment of PTSD. She also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Relapse Prevention Therapy and Motivational Interviewing with her clients. Tanya works with individuals as well as couples. Being part of the healing process of her clients is what makes her job the best one in the world.
Chad Willis | Primary Therapist - LPC
After a 20-plus year career with the City of Mesa's Animal Control Unit, Chad turned his attention to behavioral health. After earning his Master's Degree in Counseling, Chad work in the crisis, detox, and psychiatric units at CBI. Chad has extensive experience in individual and group counseling in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. Chad is trained in EMDR therapy and trauma counseling and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention therapy in his daily practice.
Chad is an active member of his community, church, and enjoys spending his free time with his grandchildren.
Becky Lutz | Client Support Manager
Prior to joining the Choice Team, Becky spent many years with Community Bridges ("CBI") as a peer support specialist and behavioral health technician. At CBI's Human Services Campus, her role involved crisis and case management as well as leading the centers State Opioid Response Team. Becky also participated in the writing of CBI's Medication Assisted Treatment curriculum from a peer's perspective.
Becky stays active in the community as Co-Chair for the Arizona AIDS walk for the Aunt Rita's Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors for Southwest Centers for HIV, and a volunteer at Ignite in outreach, education and testing.
Dr. J Carvel Jackson, DO | Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jackson earned his Doctorate at Western University of Health Sciences before completing his residency at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1989. Dr. Jackson has been providing medical services in the Valley of the Sun since leaving Stanford and has dedicated his practice to working with those dependent on Opioids & other addictive drugs. Including Addiction, Dr. Jackson specializes in Pain Management and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
Associations: American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Rachel Buettner | Director of Operations:
Rachel has a Bachelor's and Masters Degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix, respectively. Prior to joining Choice Recovery, Rachel earned over a decade of experience in the behavioral health industry as a transition counselor, clinician, and operations manager. Her approach to substance use disorder treatment follows the Choice Recovery model of treating the person rather than simply the disease.
Rachel is active in the community, loves dogs, helping others, and Nebraska Cornhusker football!
Ashley Vanderwerff | Life Coach:
Ashley graduated from Saddleback College with an Associate's degree in Liberal Studies and Sociology. Her passion to help others struggling with addiction comes from her lived experiences with substance use and recovery. Ashley believes recovery can save lives, heal broken relationships and help to develop a life purpose; she believes these things because they are what recovery has done for her.
Ashley has two beautiful children who provide her with more than simply joy, but a reason to become a better mother, daughter, and person.
Luke Arnold | Life Coach:
Luke joins the Choice Recovery team via Minnesota where he honed his behavioral health skills at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Luke attended Globe University in Woodbury, MN and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. Following graduation, Luke pursued a career in business technology but as his own journey in recovery strengthened, he chose to transition into the world of behavioral health. To his life coaching role, Luke brings an authentic and straight-forward approach to life and recovery that demands commitment and accountability.
Like any good Minnesotan, Luke has a passion for all things cold like hockey, ice-fishing, and snowmobiling.
Toni Hoskins | Life Coach:
Toni works closely with Choice Recovery's Telehealth clients. Her mission is to help them build their foundation in recovery and find their life purpose via online therapy. Through creativity, discipline, and a passion for all things recovery, she encourages clients to fully commit to living a life that they love. Toni has extensive experience working in the recovery community where her focus has been on assisting recovering addicts find housing, employment, and happiness.
Toni is an Arizona native and has two beautiful middle-school aged boys who receive her undivided attention and unconditional love.
James Donley | President & COO:
James is an entrepreneur with business experience in a number of fields including accounting, luxury travel, financial turn-around & restructuring, banking, real estate development, contracting & home services, sales & marketing, and private equity. Patrick Varney | Therapist - LASAC
Patrick’s career in the behavioral health industry began in 1997 at Foundations Sober Living Homes in San Diego, California which he owned. Since that time, he has earned his Associates Degree in Applied Sciences – Chemical Dependency, a Bachelor of Psychology, and a Master’s in Addiction Counseling. He is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in Professional Counseling (May 2020).
In 2008, Patrick moved to Arizona and began his career on the clinical side of addiction treatment. Patrick has worked in residential and outpatient treatment facilities across the valley including, but not limited to Behavioral Health Services, Lifewell, Ascend, Buena Vista, and Valley Hope.
Using his personal and professional experiences, Patrick leads clients through the concepts of learned helplessness, relapse prevention, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other key evidence-based modalities.
Sharon Brack | Genetic Nutritionist - HHC, AADP
Sharon is a Genetic Nutritionist, who works with clients to identify those foods and supplements/vitamins that work most efficiently with their genetic coding. She is a Certified Holistic Health Counselor, and supplement expert who has dedicated her life to personal care.
Since 2009, Sharon has worked with a diverse set of clients formulating personal plans to maximize their own health and wellness. In addition to her private practice (I Know Me), Sharon was Director of Genetic Nutrition for a lifestyle genetic testing company. This experience pushed Sharon to develop an integrative approach to nutrition that designs eating plans specific to an individual’s genome. Through testing, Sharon can develop health plans that improve your daily output (energy & health) through strategic inputs (food). Working with Sharon simplifies the complexities of dieting and nutritional health. Her tailor-made nutritional plans ensure clients eat those foods that are right for them, not only those foods considered “health”.

Rachel Curry | Therapist
Rachel is the founder of Scottsdale Coaching, an Arizona based treatment and healing center dedicated to helping individuals live the life they desire. Through her education and training in Post-Induction Theory, EMDR, Brainspotting, Trauma, and Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Rachel works with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. In her private practice and group work, Rachel includes art and internal family systems therapy to help clients find mental harmony and emotional balance.

Michael Gentry | Therapist - JD, LCSW
In 2006, after a lengthy career as an attorney in Houston, Michael choose to make a change and bring his talents to the behavioral health industry. His counseling journey began at wilderness therapy programs in Utah and Colorado where Michael worked with young people struggling with addiction and related disorders.
In 2012, Michael received his Master’s in Social Work from Arizona State University. For the next few years he trained as an addiction counselor at The Meadows of Wickenburg. Following his work at The Meadows, Michael opened his private practice where he focuses on anxiety, depression, substance abuse, codependence, relationship problems, and general life difficulties. To resolve these issues, Michael leads clients through the concepts of self-awareness & discernment, transformational change, and establishing a more coherent sense of self.
